Omaha, NE. —Great Plains Theatre Commons (GPTC) will premiere The Guadalupes April 14-16 at 7:30pm in partnership with Holy Family Community Center at 1715 Izard Street. Tickets are available for free here. GPTC is pleased to welcome playwright and performer Noah Diaz back home to share a multigenerational story about his family. Diaz is currently creating his own television series for Hulu/20th Century Television with Eva Longoria’s production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment.
“It has been a great privilege to watch Noah’s growth from a local student, acting in every show that he could get cast in, to a national theatre artist whose stories are seen on stages and screens across the country. We commissioned him to be a part of our Neighborhood Tapestries PlayFest series because of the depth of heart and vision that radiates from his work, and his perspective as a playwright who grew up in our community with deep connections to South Omaha,” said director and Artistic and Administrative Coordinator Kevin Lawler.
The Guadalupes is a meta-theatric exploration of history, memory, family, sadness, the importance of naming things, and the hard pill swallow of accepting our ancestry. This Neighborhood Tapestries commission and regional premiere continues GPTC’s community-based work with an autobiographical dive into a multi-generational South Omaha family.
